Nilai, 5th April 2023 - The diversity of the community at MIU is further enlivened by the establishment of a new club, the African Student Club at MIU. With the numbers of students from the continent of Africa, it is important to create a club where they could gather, organised and promoting their unique cultural.
The African continent itself consist of 54 sovereign states and dependent territories, and is the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent. With the numbers of countries, the unique cultural aspects are bound to be promoted, especially to the diversity community at MIU.
President of the club, Stephen Obeng stated that it is a great chance for the African student community to promote the uniqueness of the African country. "As the president of this club, I hope that students from other countries and the general public can learn more about the culture and people of Africa, and they could get better understanding on what makes Africa unique and interesting,” he added.
The appointment of Dr. Rana Altounjy as this new club's advisor fills her with joy. She also appreciates how each club member helped to make the club a reality. "I feel pleasure by the appointment as an advisor to this club. I acknowledge that I have a lot of work to do so that this Club can continue to thrive.”
"Throughout the day, all the preparations for the ceremony were done by all of them, and in the end, they managed to accomplish it successfully,” she said.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor of MIU who gave an aspiring opening speech, the ribbon and cake cutting ceremony, and interestingly, a short and spontaneous Q&A session on Africa with the guests present before the event ended.
Dance performance by the African students themselves rounded off the launch event.
